What to Expect From This Class...
This class is required to graduate. This is a college prep course and will be treated as such. There will be at least three days of homework a week and tests or quizzes at least once a week. Students must have a calculator for more than 85% of the work that needs to be completed. Time will be given to students to complete work in class, and there will be many instances that work must be done before students leave.
Students will be assigned vocabulary for each chapter. This vocabulary is given by the state of Michigan Curriculum and may not always be in the students book. This work may require them to go onto the computer. Also, students will have assignments on Blackboard, this will require computers as well.
We encourage contact with us through email. We have included our room phone numbers on the "About Us" page, but we are more easily accessable through email. Please allow us at least one day to respond to your email.
Last year Chippewa Valley launched the Parent Portal. This allows you to monitor your students grades and attendance on a daily basis. We highly reccomend that you use this service to keep up to date weekly. We have found that this reduces many conflicts between teacher and parent.
Please allow for teachers to update their gradebooks weekly. Meaning, not all teachers will be entering grades everyday, but most will update grades on a weekly basis.
The link below is instructions on how to set up email notifications through PowerSchool.
What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is an online classroom in which each student has an account. This account allows them to access all assignments, powerpoints, tutorials, movies and tests that their teacher provides for them. Students can make notes for when assignments are due as well as personal notes in the calendar function. We highly reccomend (but do not require) that students use this online site at least two days a week outside of school. They will also be using it in class to do labs and tests. Parents may access our guest account to keep up to date on assignments and to see what your student is currently working on. Email your corresponding teacher for a guest pass.
Chippewa Valley Website...
We highly stress monitoring the main Chippewa Valley High School website. This will keep you up to date on current events, such as parent teacher conferences. You may also sign up to receive text message updates. See main website for more.
